At Walkers Road Preschool we believe that children are capable and resourceful learners who are active contributors to their own learning. We believe that all children need to feel valued and that children should be valued as individuals but within the context of their family and their community.

Building Confidence and Self-esteem

We believe it is essential to create a secure environment for all the children. We believe that children should be nurtured and supported as this is essential for children to develop confidence and positive self-esteem. We believe the educational program should be child centred that caters for all children and individual learning styles.

Child-Centred Learning Approach

The learning program at Walkers Road Preschool is therefore a play-based program, with open-ended experiences based on the Early Years Learning Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. We believe the children can contribute positively to the program and their ideas, interests and abilities should guide the direction of the program.

Individualised Learning

We believe the program should be developed building on their strengths along with individual observations of the children as well as goals and other information provided by the families. We encourage children to use their current knowledge and utilise existing capabilities to obtain new skills to help them maximise learning.

Connecting with Nature through Bush Kinder

Our Bush kinder program allows children to play in an unstructured environment. The play opportunities are open ended and are led by the children with no predetermined outcome. Children are active and interactive learners. Through first hand experiences in nature children activity explore and discover new learnings.  Often learning is child initiated and other times learning occurs through planned and spontaneous intentional teaching. The Bush kinder environment encourages a positive disposition towards risk taking and tackling new challenges.

Acknowledging Traditional Custodians

The staff at Walkers Road Preschool acknowledge the Bunurong  people as the traditional custodians of the lands and waters where the preschool is located and recognise their continuing connection to country. We pay our respects to elders past and present and emerging and extend that respect to all Aboriginal peoples.
